授業概要

【CJSP/TAISI Course】

In recent decades, it has been recognised that the business approach could be effective in solving or mitigating social problems facing our globalising society. Japan, as well as other countries, is currently struggling with social problems caused by depopulation, ageing, gender inequalities, unemployment, natural disasters, and so on. Some people turn to social business, as a means to contribute to solving these issues. Prior to planning social businesses, however, it is imperative to understand socio-economic circumstances and identify problems that prospective social entrepreneurs want to solve/mitigate for the betterment of society. This course provides students with opportunities to learn how to explore and identify problems by using qualitative research methods. This course also introduces various research methods and the challenges confronted in diverse applied contexts.

授業の到達目標 Through this course, the students will be able to:
- understand qualitative research methods and various applied fields;
- develop analytic and problem-solving abilities in practice; and
- improve written and oral communication skills to explain the findings based on qualitative research.
事前・事後学習の内容 It is essential that students do the required preparatory reading for in-class discussions and assigned tasks. It is strongly recommended that students carefully read the reading materials at home and take notes. Note-taking is not simply a means to record information, but it is also an important part of your learning. Students are also expected to actively participate in in-class activities and conduct their own research outside the classroom.
