副題 Digital Computers

Digital computers, smart phones, mobile devices and communication networks have been influencing every segment of our lives. Knowledge of computers is absolutely essential in today’s world. Computers enable us to perform complex computations, carry out advanced simulations, process vast amounts of data, work and communicate effectively, and facilitate many beneficial functions. This class shall provide an excellent higher-order overview of physical principles and technologies used in modern digital computers. In order to acquire comprehensive knowledge of digital computers, we start with the basic computing principles and architectures. They are followed by physical and engineering principles in hardware, software, and computer networks. The course ends by highlighting several exciting future trends.

授業の到達目標 The course objective is to provide a higher-order comprehensive knowledge of the underlying physical and engineering principles of digital computers, computing platforms and smart devices. Upon successful completion of the course, you will have working knowledge of the engineering principles, hardware and software elements, computer networks and international standards.

教科書 Digital versions of study materials will be provided, so students do not need to purchase a textbook. The study materials shall be accessible via Waseda E-Resource Portal.
参考文献 Literature and further reading references will be offered at each lecture.
成績評価方法 The final grade will be assigned according to four components weighted as follows:

Exam: 40%
Assignments: 30%
In-Class Participation: 15%
Others: 15%

The following grading scale shall be used: A+: 100-90, A: 89-80, B: 79-70, C: 69-60, and F: 59-0.
備考・関連URL Students will be expected to prepare for the class and complete assignments in time. In principle, late assignments will not be accepted―except for special circumstances such as illness, emergencies, or public transportation problems.
