授業概要

This course aims at equipping students with the knowledge and skills in economic theory for analyzing environmental issues and designing appropriate policies. Students will learn optimization theory and its economic applications, with materials selected from the literature on environmental and resource economics. The subjects include the market-based policy instruments such as tax and tradable pollution permit system. The course partially takes a form of a seminar. That is, each student will be assigned a paper or a chapter of a book and present its content.  Prior knowledge in economics is not necessary, but elementary mathematics is a prerequisite. This class is not suitable for students who do not understand matrix calculation or total derivative. Since it is hard to understand the detail of mathematical proofs in the class time, students are required to do adequate and careful preparation. It will take in 3 hours or more than a week.

授業の到達目標 After completing the class, students should be able to read most of professional papers on environmental and resource economics by themselves.
事前・事後学習の内容 Read carefully the materials in advance, taking adequate time. It will take 3 hours or more than a week. Before attending class, clarify what you have and have not understood about the materials.
