副題 Intelligibility and Comprehensibility in L2 Speech
授業概要 This course is geared for graduate students interested in second language (L2) phonetics and phonology, bilingualism, and foreign language teaching. Our discussion centers on phonetic acquisition, intelligibility and comprehensibility, and pronunciation instruction. The course focuses mainly on several issues on both phonetic aspects of foreign accent, intelligibility, and comprehensibility, and such pedagogical aspects as teaching for intelligibility and the intelligibility-based classroom.
授業の到達目標 1. To understand concepts of intelligibility, comprehensibility and foreign accent in second language (L2) speech;
2. To discuss intelligibility in terms of vowels, consonants, and prosody;
3. To learn how L2 teachers should teach for intelligibility;
4. To critique recent studies in the field and design your own research;
5. To pilot it by collecting and/or (acoustically) analyzing speech data;
6. To present the findings at an international conference.
