副題 Recent Trends in Second Language (L2) Phonetics and Phonology (SLPP)
授業概要 This course overviews recent trends on pronunciation in L2 learning and teaching by reading recent journal articles published in the past ten years. Our discussion centers on foreign accent & comprehensibility including ELF, pronunciation in instructional settings, early foreign language learning & bilingual advantage, and phonetic acquisition of segments and suprasegments.
授業の到達目標 1. To understand recent trends on the acquisition of L2 speech;
2. To critique recent studies on L2 pronunciation and find a few new research questions;
3. To relate recent research findings and theories of L2 speech with your own study;
4. To pilot or complete a pronunciation study by collecting and (acoustically) analyzing speech data;
5. To present your study at an international conference or write up a publishable paper for an international journal.
